An Indian woman would always want to have many Banarasi sarees in her closet which are preserved and transferred from one generation to another, much like the ancestral property. It is widely believed that the Mughals brought the art of Banarasi weaving to India in the 14th century and patronized it while establishing the artisans in and around Banaras, the modern-day Varanasi.
